Eastern Cemetery of 1668

The final resting place of abolitionists and revolutionaries, Eastern Cemetery is the oldest in Portland, Maine. Snow kept me locked outside the gates so my visit was all too brief.

Opened in 1668, the earliest recorded burial in Eastern Cemetery was in 1717. It belongs to a woman.

The fence, which was locked and kept me out due to the snow, was erected in 1916.
